Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Tuesday laid wreaths to pay homage to the slain cops who lost their lives in the border clash on Monday night, in Silchar.

Assam government has also declared three-day state mourning as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

Chief Minister Sarma Tuesday morning landed in Silchar and went to Silchar Medical College to meet the injured police personnel.

An uneasy calm prevailed in the conflict a day after six policemen were killed defending the constitutional boundary.

At least 50 police personnel have also been injured in the bloody conflict.

Earlier, the Mizoram government had refuted claims by the Assam government that it instigated the violence.

The Assam government hit back saying that the Mizoram government escalated the tension in the conflict area which resulted in the killing of its police personnel.

The incidents came two days after Amit Shah held talks with the chief ministers of eight northeastern states and underscored the need to resolve lingering border disputes.

The two sides have been engaged in a dispute over alleged encroachments in each other’s land.
