Bishnupur: A special drive for the enrolment of left-out and first-time/young electors under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign was held today at S. Kulla College, Nambol, Bishnupur district.

As part of the campaign, a quiz competition on the theme “No Voter to Be Left Behind” was organised, in which students of the college participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO), Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, elaborated on the role of Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) in creating electoral awareness among students. She stated that ELCs provide a platform for school students to learn about their electoral rights and familiarise themselves with the processes of voter registration and voting through engaging activities and hands-on experiences. She also highlighted that ELCs are established in colleges and rural communities to promote electoral literacy among different sections of society.

She further explained the procedure for establishing ELCs in schools and colleges, stating that the institutions may approach the District Collector, who is also the District Election Officer (DEO), or the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for assistance.

The DC/DEO appealed to all concerned to ensure the enrolment of eligible left-out and first-time/young electors in Bishnupur district and to spread maximum awareness about voter registration and participation in the electoral process.

The EROs of 24-Nambol AC and 25-Oinam AC, along with the Principal and teachers of the college, attended the programme. SVEEP campaigns were also organised today for 26-Bishnupur AC and 27-Moirang AC.
