Meghalaya state judicial academy holds clean air outreach programme in Byrnihat

Meghalaya: The Meghalaya State Judicial Academy (MSJA), under the aegis of the High Court of Meghalaya and in collaboration with the Office of BDO, Umling C&RD Block, Ri- Bhoi District successfully conducted a one-day Outreach Programme on “Right to Clean Air: From Statistics to Action” on 9th September 2026, in the Multipurpose Hall, Byrnihat

The programme was conducted in view of the rising concerns regarding air pollution in Byrnihat Circle, thereby reinforcing the role of the courts in promoting environmental responsibility and community welfare.

The presence K.M Lyngdoh Nongbri, Director, Meghalaya State Judicial Academy highlighted the importance of the programme.  The Programme began with the welcome address by Shri Eric Kevin Dkhar, BDO, Umling C&RD Block, Ri Bhoi District, followed by the introductory speech delivered by N.I Dkhar, Deputy Director, Meghalaya State Judicial Academy.

Wanshanbor R. Kharkrang, Chief Environmental Engineer, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board and Shri. S. Swer, Chief Scientist, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board delivered sessions on “Statistical Report on Air Pollution in Byrnihat” and “Waste Management Rules, 2026”.

The members of “YoMariang” – the Environmental & Circular Systems Division of ISMG conducted a session on “Role of Communities in Controlling Air Pollution and Innovative Approaches to Waste Management”.

The programme included interactive activities such as Students’ Hotspot Mapping, Waste Segregation Challenge, Waste & Pollution Detective Puzzle, demonstrative videos on waste and air pollution, and distribution of Vehicle Waste Pouches.

The programme concluded with community experience sharing, summary of key takeaways and Vote of Thanks.
