97 fresh Covid cases recorded in Meghalaya

Shillong: The surge in Covid-19 infection continued in Meghalaya with 97 new cases recorded on Wednesday that increased the number of active cases to 628, health officials said.

So far, the state has recorded 95084 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 1605 deaths and 92851 cases of recovery.

The West Garo Hills, including Tura, reported the maximum number of 43 new cases today with the district accounting for 352 active cases, the highest in the state.

The number of active Covid-19 cases was 123 in the East Khasi Hills, which includes the state capital Shillong with the district reporting 23 new cases of infection today, as per official statistics.

On the other hand, North Garo Hills and Ri-Bhoi reported eight new Covid-19 cases each today with the number of active cases in the districts rising to 10 and 42 respectively followed by West Jaintia Hills reporting five new cases with the number of active cases in the district at 18, South West Garo Hills reported four cases with the number of active cases in the district at 35.

Two cases each in South Garo Hills and Eastern West Khasi Hills with the number of active cases in the districts at 20 and seven, and one case each in East Garo Hills and East Jaintia Hills with the number of active cases in the districts being seven and eight respectively, according to the latest official case count.

Seventy-two Covid-19 infected patients are currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the state,” a health official said.

Meanwhile, according to the National Health Mission record, 32139 health care workers have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, 29513 have been administered with the second dose and 10238 have taken the third precaution dose, while 97029 front-line workers have been vaccinated with the first dose, 85735 have received the second dose and 30149 have got the precaution shot, even as 1304638 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose, 953763 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose and 13389citizens have taken the booster dose across the state till date.
