Imphal: Assam Rifles executed extensive cleanliness drives, environmental awareness sessions and voluntary Shramdaan initiatives across Tengnoupal, Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kakching districts of Manipur from 17 September to 02 October 2026. Aligned with the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign under the themes “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat” and “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath”, the fortnight-long movement culminated on Swachh Bharat Diwas, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti and the International Day of Non-Violence, driving active public participation towards environmental stewardship.
In Tengnoupal District, Assam Rifles organised dedicated activities at Larong Khullen and Moreh. At Larong Khullen Government High School and village, approximately 40 security personnel joined students, staff and local authorities to sanitize public spaces and sensitise youth on personal hygiene. In Moreh, Assam Rifles partnered with Moreh Youth Club, local civil society organisations and volunteers for a Flag March and public cleanup drive involving approximately 120 school children.
Commemorating Gandhi Jayanti on 02 October 2026, synchronized cleanliness drives were conducted at Wanglee, Kasong, Kasom Khullen, Sorde, Gamnoum, Shangshak Village and JNV Lambui across Ukhrul and Kamjong districts. A total of 135 civilians, including 75 local residents and 60 JNV Lambui students, participated alongside security personnel in village sanitation and took the “Swachh Bharat, Swachh Manipur” pledge. Concurrently, across border villages including Phaikoh, Kamtong, Kongkhan, Nampisha and Chassad in Kamjong District, a massive voluntary Shramdaan mobilized 300 local residents, 120 security personnel and 30 students to clear public waste and promote hygienic practices.
Across forward Company Operating Bases in Ukhrul district, troops of Assam Rifles carried out campaign activities throughout the fortnight, joining hands with local church bodies in Ukhrul town for a joint public cleanliness drive. Meanwhile, in Kakching District, a two-phase programme engaged 60 students of Assam Rifles Public School Kakching, 60 civilians from Wabagai and 40 security personnel. The drive combined an awareness session on Northeastern biodiversity and water body conservation with campus cleaning, followed by community outreach at Wabagai. Through these sustained efforts, Assam Rifles reinforced that cleanliness remains a continuous collective civic responsibility.
