Chandel:       Assam Rifles paid a solemn tribute to the braveheart Rifleman (General Duty) Gaj Bahadur Rana on his Martyrdom Day at Modi in Chandel District on 02 October 2026, commemorating his supreme sacrifice, exceptional valour, and unwavering devotion to the Nation. Rfn (GD) Gaj Bahadur Rana laid down his life in the line of duty on 02 October 1968 during a fierce encounter with insurgents in the Dikhu area of Mokokchung District, Nagaland.

To mark the occasion, a grand wreath-laying ceremony was organised with full military decorum and solemnity. A total of 65 personnel gathered to pay floral tributes to the fallen hero and observed a two-minute silence in his honour. The commemorative event served as a poignant reminder of the proud regimental ethos of the Force, seamlessly connecting the present generation of troops with the enduring legacy of past bravehearts. By preserving the memory of such selfless acts of bravery, the activity aimed to instil a deep sense of patriotism, professional pride, and responsibility among all ranks. Ultimately, Rfn Gaj Bahadur Rana’s immortal story of “Service Before Self” continues to motivate soldiers to uphold the highest traditions of courage and duty in service to the Nation.
