Govt must bear fees of medical students selected through CENTAC: LoP Siva

In a statement, Siva said the chief minister had announced that the government will bear the full fees of the medical students selected through CENTAC in private medical colleges and order in this regard will ensure that the private colleges will not ask for any money from the students.

Puducherry: DMK state convener and leader of the opposition R Siva on Sunday urged chief minister N Rangasamy to issue orders in respect of the government bearing the entire fees of the medical students selected through the Centralized Admission Committee (Centac) of the government.

In a statement, Siva said the chief minister had announced that the government will bear the full fees of the medical students selected through CENTAC in private medical colleges and order in this regard will ensure that the private colleges will not ask for any money from the students.

Siva said though, 1598 MBBS seats are there in Puducherry in JIPMER, Government Medical College and private medical colleges, the local students are getting only 368 seats(Jipmer-68, in all private medical colleges -165 and Government medical college 135).

He also wanted the government to obtain 50 per cent of seats in private medical colleges as government quota and also adequate seats in private medical colleges which were converted as deemed universities.
