Covid testing must for incoming passengers

The state has registered over 450 positive patients so far with the report of three deaths in the last one week due to Covid with 154 fresh cases in 24 hours.

Agartala: The Tripura government has made on arrival Covid testing must for all the incoming passengers through air, rail and roads from Sunday following a sudden surge of coronavirus infection in the state during last week.

The state has registered over 450 positive patients so far with the report of three deaths in the last one week due to Covid with 154 fresh cases in 24 hours. However, most of the infected patients are having mild symptoms and have been undergoing treatment in home isolation.

Although the figure and the intensity of infection were claimed to be low, the state government became worried over the spread of infection even among the people having double dose of vaccine and children.
The state administration has launched massive enforcement against non-use and improper wearing of mask and face cover outside the home and violation of mandated distance in public places.

The state government implemented a fresh order from Sunday to prevent further spread of infection saying, “All domestic incoming passengers through MBB airport, Railway station and Checkposts along Assam and Mizoram will have to undergo Covid-19 testing at the entry points irrespective of negative Covid test report or final Covid vaccination certificate.”

Moreover, civil administration has been asked to launch cluster wise enforcement with police against flouting face cover mask norms and crowding. All political gatherings and social congregations have been banned henceforth until further order. Besides, imposing fine the officers have been authorised to book the violators under Disaster Management Act.

The movement of public transport including trains and buses with crowds has been banned in the state and police have been asked to take appropriate action against the violators.

The state government would go for some more restrictions including the imposition of night curfew and other measures from Monday after deciding the special cabinet meeting, the officials said.

According to sources, the government is likely to reduce the strength in all government offices at 50 per cent while training of all departments except Fire Service and Health would be restricted.

The West Tripura district issued a notification mentioning the list of vaccination centres for booster dose of campaign health workers and other frontline workers and the people aged more than 60 years with comorbidity.

The report stated that there is an alarming rise of Covid positive incidences in the Agartala Municipal Corporation areas and in last 24 hours it registered at 12 per cent while the figure in the entire state is only 4 per cent.

However, the health department has already put all preparations in place with sufficient stock of medical essentials and adequate quarantine centres at the subdivision level.
