Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrest 3 Class-I officers & seize over Rs 22.61 lakh black money

Bhubaneswar: Sleuths of the Vigilance department have arrested three Class -I officers and seized total cash worth over Rs 22.61 lakh black money from them, Vigilance SP Akshay Kumar Mishra said here Sunday.

Mr Mishra said the Vigilance team had intercepted Bidhan Chandra Sahu, Superintending Engineer, Irrigation Baitarini Division, Salapada, Dist- Keonjhar at N.C. College Road in front of Covid Hospital, Jajpur town, while he was plying from Salapada to Cuttack by office vehicle Saturday. During interception, a sum of Rs.10,07,620/ was recovered from Mr Sahu, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

During the search, cash of Rs.64,000/- was recovered from his residential house at Mahatab Road, Cuttack. The entire amount totalling Rs 10,71,620 has been seized .

The Vigilance department has registered a case against Mr Sahu and he was arrested today and is being produced in the court.

In the second case, a Vigilance team had intercepted Prakash Kumar Mohapatra, Regional Officer, State Pollution Control Board, Panposh, Rourkela at Sundarpada, Bhubaneswar, while he was returning from Rourkela Saturday.

During interception, a sum of Rs.1,75,810/- was recovered from Mr Mohapatra, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

In this connection, a case has been registered against Mr Mohapatra, and he was arrested and forwarded to the Court. The Court has remanded him to Judicial custody till October 21 next.

In another case, Mr Mishra said, a team of Vigilance had intercepted Mr Narottam Behera, Regional Officer, State Pollution Control Board, Balasore at Tangi check gate, Cuttack, yesterday while he was plying from Balasore to Bhubaneswar by a hired car.

During interception, a sum ofRs.89,290/- was recovered from Mr Behera, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

During the search, cash of Rs.9,25,000/ was recovered from his residential house at Satyanagr. . The entire amount totalling Rs 10,14,290/- has been seized.

In this connection, a case has been registered against Mr Behera.

He has been arrested and is being forwarded to Court.

The investigation of the case is in progress.
