Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nameirakpam Loken Singh has resigned from his post after Congress president Sonia Gandhi asked the PCC presidents of the five states that went to polls to resign for reorganisation of the state bodies.
“Taking responsibility of the major defeat of the candidates of Indian National Congress (INC) in the last 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, 2022, I do hereby submit my resignation tender from the Presidentship of the Manipur Congress Committee (MPCC) of the INC on moral ground with immediate effect,” said a statement issued by Loken.
On Tuesday, Congress presidents in Punjab, UP, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, where the party suffered setbacks were told to resign to enable reorganisation of the party.
