Shillong: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Monday decided to extend the time for payment of pending liabilities by tax payers.
Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the decision was taken after the Cabinet approved the proposal to amend the Meghalaya Settlement of Arrears under the State Taxation Act Amendment Ordinance, 2022.
Although, the State government has implemented the one time settlement of tax, Rymbui, however said that there are some persons, firms, agencies who have already paid some percentage of the
tax but they could not clear all.
“There are some firms which have already submitted the application as they could not pay because the last date for settlement is over,” he said, adding that the taxation department has proposed to
give time only to those who have submitted the application and have expressed willingness to settle their tax.
Rymbui said the government will be able to generate Rs 12 crore for pending cases which lying with the taxation department.
