Ukhrul: Shangshak Battalion of Assam Rifles organised “A Day with Company Commander” at Poi Village as part of its community outreach initiatives, designed to strengthen civil-military camaraderie and provide the youth with firsthand exposure to the ethos and functioning of the Force.
The programme brought together 30 students accompanied by teaching staff from KGB School and Baptist School, along with the Headman of Poi Village. The day commenced with a warm reception, followed by a “Know Your Assam Rifles” presentation that introduced the participants to the rich history, motto and dual role of the Force in border guarding and internal security, as well as its contributions to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the North East.
A major highlight was the “Life of a Rifleman” interactive session, where soldiers shared their personal experiences, daily routines and challenges, enabling the youth to connect with the troops on a personal level. The event also featured a static weapon and equipment display, which captivated the students and offered them a rare glimpse into operational capabilities.
Keeping the future of the youth in mind, a dedicated career guidance session was conducted, providing information on opportunities to join the Armed Forces and the Assam Rifles, along with advice on academic preparation, physical fitness and discipline. The day concluded with the presentation of gifts, a commemorative group photograph and shared moments with the troops, further reinforcing trust and mutual understanding in the border areas of Ukhrul District.
