Kolkata: Manipur Governor La Ganesan on Monday took additional charge of West Bengal in the same capacity after being sworn in at a simple ceremony at Raj Bhavan in presence of state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava administered the oath of office to La Ganesan in presence of state Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee and some of Cabinet ministers, including Firhad Hakim.
The gubernatorial post of the state went vacant after incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday resigned after being named the vice-presidential candidate for BJP-led NDA alliance.
On July 17 President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Ganesan to take additional charge of West Bengal.
