Imphal: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at the Forest Headquarters (FHQ), Imphal, on Saturday.
The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Anurag Bajpai, IFS, PCCF & HoFF, Government of Manipur, at the Forest Headquarters. The flag-hoisting ceremony was attended by senior forest officers, field officers, ministerial staff, frontline forest personnel and other officials of the Department.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the PCCF & HoFF extended his warm greetings on Independence Day and reflected on the significance of the occasion, stating that Independence Day is not merely a commemoration of 15 August 1947, but a reminder of the sacrifices, courage and aspirations that brought the country freedom, as well as the responsibility inherited by every generation to make that freedom meaningful for generations to come.
He highlighted that Manipur, with its rich history and proud traditions, has always been an integral part of the national journey. Recalling the contributions of the freedom fighters from the state, he noted that their courage and sacrifices in the struggle against colonial rule and in defence of the land and freedom form an important part of Manipur’s shared history. He called upon everyone to remember this legacy not merely with pride, but by strengthening the bonds of fraternity, mutual respect and unity among all communities.
The PCCF & HoFF further highlighted the important role of the Forest Department in protecting and conserving the State’s rich forest and wildlife resources. He called upon all officers and staff to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, integrity and a strong sense of public service, while recognising that protection of forests and wildlife is a collective responsibility requiring sustained commitment and cooperation.
The occasion also served as an opportunity to recognise the contribution of forest personnel who work in challenging conditions across the State to protect forests, wildlife and biodiversity. The Department reiterated its commitment to strengthening forest protection, ecological restoration, wildlife conservation and meaningful community participation in environmental protection.
The celebration concluded with a renewed pledge by the officers and staff of the Forest Department to uphold the values of the Constitution, strengthen the spirit of unity and fraternity, and contribute towards a greener, healthier and more resilient Manipur.
