Main suspect behind Meghalaya pre-poll violence under detention

Four people were injured in the pre-poll violence on February 7 night following a clash between supporters of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) at Charbatapara village.

Shillong: The main suspect in the pre-poll violence in Phulbari assembly constituency in Meghalaya has been placed under preventive detention till March 3, Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said on Sunday.

He said 47 persons have been arrested so far in connection with the violence and 142 have been bound down by the court under Section 107 of the CrPC, as per the reports of West Garo Hills police.
