Itanagar: In a ‘first’, the country’s maiden Integrated Aqua Park is ‘set’ to be established in Arunachal Pradesh.
The project has been sanctioned by the Union Government under the CSS component of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), official sources said on Saturday.
Taking to Twitter, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, “It was a dream of PM Narendra Modi Ji to establish an Aqua Park in every state. Happy to share that under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, first Aqua Park of India is sanctioned to Arunachal.”
The Park will be set up at Tarin (Ziro) in Lower Subansiri district, he said.
The said Integrated Aqua Park project has been appraised by Project Appraisal Committee (PAC) in its 27th meeting held on July 19-21 and the recommendations have been communicated to the Department of Fisheries, Government of India by National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB).
After due examination, the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Government of India approved the project of Establishment of Integrated Aqua Park at Tarin, Ziro, Lower Subansiri district under Annual Action Plan of Government of Arunachal Pradesh at a total project cost not exceeding Rs 4359.04 lakh with Central share of Rs 3923.14 lakh under CSS component of PMMSY during 2022-23, said an official communiqué from the Dept of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, GoI.

The admissible Central liability will be released to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in 4 equal instalments as per the latest guidelines of Department of Expenditure. Release of each instalment will be subject to utilization of at least 75% of the funds previously released, and release of matching State share for the previous releases by the DoF, it said.
Expressing delight over the ‘development’, Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister cum local legislator of Ziro, Tage Taki said, “In a welcome move, GoI has sanctioned establishment of one Aqua Park at Tarin in Lower Subansiri District.”
“The project envisaged to include activities like setting up of new pond, trout hatchery, fish mill, Brood bank, retail fish market, Aqua museum etc. It will be one of the finest fishery projects in the state which will also encourage blue tourism. Blue revolution set in motion…!”, he said.
The PMMSY, being implemented by the Dept of Fisheries, GoI, envisages to bring about a Blue Revolution through sustainable and responsible development of the fisheries sector in India.
