Imphal: The 8th Edition of Sagolband Kendra 7-A Side Open Football Tournament, 2022, was kicked off Saturday at Sagolband Bijoy Govinda Lampak.
The tournament which is organized by Sagolband Mantri Leikai Voluntary Organisation, SMLVO is participated by 19 football teams from Sagolband Assembly Constituency. The tournament is sponsored by the Sagolband Constituency Progressive Committee.
Health & IPR Minister Dr. S. Ranjan Singh, MLA, Sagolband Assembly Constituency, Rajkumar Imo Singh, R.K. Rashmani Singh, President, Vijoy Govinda Savayet Committee, MLA, Tamenglong A.C. Zahemlung Panmei graced the inaugural occasion as Chief Guest, Chief Host, President and Guest of Honour respectively. A LED Flood Light of the playground was also inaugurated by the Chief Guest as a part of the occasion.
Speaking as Chief Guest, Minister Dr. S. Ranjan Singh said that we need to encourage sports and players of the state since they are playing a big role to identify the state. Games and sports have become an essential part of the state. We need to promote games and sports in the state. Minister also appealed to the participating players to maintain game spirit and take home a positive attitude towards the game.
Speaking at the occasion as Chief host, MLA RK Imo Singh informed that due to the pandemic of COVID-19 there was a gap of two years of the calendar tournament.
The spirit of sports for the young generations has been gaining momentum. We are lucky that we have many talented sports-stars who have brought laurels to the state. They are our proud asset, he added.
March Past and Band parade was also demonstrated as a part of the inaugural occasion. Dignitaries from sports and other departments also shared the dais during the occasion.
