Shillong: Former Meghalaya Minister and State BJP Secretary Sing Mulieh died of cardiac arrest at his residence in Jowai, the district headquarters of West Jaintia Hills on Tuesday. He was 71.

Later, Mulieh’s remains were taken to his ancestral village Ialong. He will be cremated on May 12.

Mulieh has been elected from Jowai Assembly Constituency for two consecutive terms in 1998 and 2003 on a United Democratic Party ticket. However, he failed to retain his seat in 2008 losing to veteran Congress leader, Prof. Roytre Christopher Laloo.

He was also a member of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and had also held the post of Chief Executive Member of JHADC.
Mulieh was preparing his ground to contest the 2023 assembly elections on a BJP ticket from Jowai assembly Constituency.

The senior BJP leader has already started door-to-door campaigning in some parts of the constituency. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has condoled the demise of Mulieh.

“ As a veteran statesman, Ma Sing played an active role in the development of the State & was deeply admired by the people,” Sangma tweeted.
