All party meet to discuss COVID-19 situation in Assam

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Thursday chaired an all party meeting to discuss the emerging COVID-19 situation in the state.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of different political parties and senior cabinet ministers of the state.

“I urged representatives of all the political parties to encourage and promote #COVID19 appropriate behaviour among the public, while adhering to the protocol of ‘Test, Trace, Treat’. We shall work unitedly in the spirit of Team Assam to defeat the virus,” tweeted Sonowal after the meeting.

The all-party meeting discussed the detection of B.1.617 strain or the Indian double mutant (L452R and E484Q) strain of SARS-Cov-2 in Assam.

In a recent development, samples from Dibrugarh Airport in Assam were found positive for Indian double mutants.

“In the meeting, we have briefed about the present scenario including emergence of Indian double mutant strain in Assam. We have taken advice from various political parties. We will work together with all the political parties so that we can prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our state,” health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma told media persons.
