Imphal: The Central Bureau of Investigation has booked a superintendent of Customs in a disproportionate assets case and conducted search at his premises here Thursday.
The accused official has been identified as Wahengbam Hemantakiswar Luwang, Superintendent of Customs Division, Imphal, Nongmeibung Chakpram Leikai, Imphal. He is a Group B Gazetted officer and is presently transferred to Aizawl, Mizoram.
The sleuths of the CBI team also searched the residence of Thoidingjam Nandababu , who happens to be the father-in-law of Hemantakiswar, at Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai, Imphal East.
A CBI source said Hemanta’s phone and activities were under surveillance for the past two months.
Hard cash of Rs 10.59 lakh, one Baleno car, gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh (approx), 04 bank accounts, 15 LIC policies and other incriminating documents showing purchase of homestead land/paddy lands including the construction of a big RCC building (G+3) at Nongmeibung Chakpram Leikal, Imphal East and another RCC building (G+3) at New Checkon, Imphal East, investments in other financial institutions including luxurious household articles were found.
While his wife is working at RIMS, Imphal, his son is currently pursuing MBBS in a private college in South India, it informed.
The source further informed that the accused during the period from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020, had acquired huge assets both movable and immovable in his name and in the name of his family members which are disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs.56.75 lakh.
A case was registered against the accused Luwang, Superintendent of Customs Division, Imphal under section 13 (2) read with 13 (1) (b) of IPC Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) for possession of alleged disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs.56,75,869/- approx, the source added.
The search was continued till the filing of the story.
