Imphal: Assam Rifles celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day by organising patriotic musical and cultural events across Thoubal and Ukhrul districts in Manipur on 14 and 15 August 2026, bringing together local communities, civil administration representatives and youth in joint celebration.

The celebrations commenced on 14 August 2026 at the historic Khongjom War Memorial in Thoubal District, where Assam Rifles hosted a grand Band Display and Cultural Programme presided over by a senior official of the force. The commemorative event was attended by top district officials, including Yumnam Robita, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal; Shri Manoj Prabhakar M, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Thoubal; Angeline Renita R, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kakching; and Priyadarshini Laishram, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Kakching. A gathering of nearly 350 people, comprising local citizens, students, NCC cadets, civil administration representatives, force personnel and their families, assembled to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters.

The programme featured a thrilling Khukri Dance performance along with synchronised Pipe and Jazz Band displays by Assam Rifles personnel, showcasing military discipline and musical traditions. Demonstrating youth participation and community harmony, NCC cadets and students from Assam Rifles Public School, Kakching, Mission Blind School and Khongjom English Standard Higher Secondary School presented diverse cultural acts. The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem followed by a felicitation ceremony to honour all participants.

Building on the patriotic fervour, Assam Rifles organised a Pipe Band Display at Bakshi Ground, Ukhrul in Ukhrul District on Independence Day, 15 August 2026. The performance drew an enthusiastic audience of 300 local civilians who witnessed the Pipe Band deliver melodious, highly coordinated martial compositions. The display highlighted the ceremonial heritage of Assam Rifles while strengthening camaraderie and mutual trust between the security forces and the local population.

By blending military ceremonial traditions with active public engagement across both districts, these Independence Day initiatives fostered national pride, unity and lasting goodwill among the people of Manipur.
