Imphal: Assam Rifles organised a series of patriotic, fitness and community engagement events across Manipur from 13 to 16 August 2026 to celebrate the 80th Independence Day and the Fit India Movement.
On 16 August 2026, cycling events took place in Imphal West and Kakching districts to promote health, discipline and eco-friendly living. At Mantripukhri Garrison in Imphal West district, 95 personnel and 25 children participated in a morning cycling event. Simultaneously, a Tiranga Cycle Rally at Kakching Garrison in Kakching district witnessed 121 personnel pedalling to promote physical well-being and national pride.
In Chandel district, multi-sport competitions were conducted at Saibol Joupi and Old Samtal between 13 and 16 August 2026. The Saibol Joupi tournament featured men’s football, men’s volleyball and women’s volleyball, engaging 169 players and 250 spectators. TMT (Sehao) won men’s football, HMT (Joupi) won men’s volleyball and DMS (Khangbarol) won women’s volleyball. At Old Samtal, Phaihengkot Village won the volleyball title while Old Samtal Village won football. National flags were distributed to 117 local residents to enhance festive fervour.
Fostering women empowerment under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, Assam Rifles facilitated local artisans at Kinepna- Women Empowerment Centre, Tuibong in Churachandpur district to stitch handcrafted National Flags in three sizes. These flags were made available for sale at Rayburn College on 14 August 2026, combining skill development, livelihood promotion and patriotism.
