One more COVID-19 related death, 108 new cases, night curfew extended in Meghalaya

Of the new COVID-19 cases detected on Monday, Dr. War said East Khasi Hills accounted for 95, seven in West Jaintia Hills district, five in Ri-Bhoi district and one case in East Jaintia Hills district.

Shillong: One more Covid-19 related death, that of an octogenarian man in Meghalaya took the fatality count due to the viral infection to 154, even as 108 fresh cases of infection surged the number of active cases up to 754 on Monday.
Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said a 80-year-old Nandeswar Das of East Khasi Hills district, suffering from other ailments and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19, at Super Care Hospital died on Sunday.
Of the new COVID-19 cases detected on Monday, Dr. War said East Khasi Hills accounted for 95, seven in West Jaintia Hills district, five in Ri-Bhoi district and one case in East Jaintia Hills district.
With 533 active COVID-19 cases and 128 deaths, the East Khasi Hills, which includes State capital Shillong is the most affected district, followed by West Jaintia Hills district with 114 active cases and Ri-Bhoi district with 50 cases.
Also 33 more recoveries from the viral infection in East Khasi Hills district and two in West Jaintia Hills district took the number of recovered cases in the State to 14, 071.
Meghalaya has so far registered 14, 979 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, the East Khasi Hills district magistrate has extended night curfew in the entire district from 10 pm to 5 am each day as one of the measures to contain the pandemic.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has laid emphasis on vaccination against COVID-19, even as he said that there would be “aggressive campaign” for vaccination across the state in collaboration with the traditional grassroots administrative organizations.
Till date, 22, 883 health care workers in the State have received the first dose of the Covishield, 16, 756 have received the second dose, 34, 998 frontline workers have got the first shot and 22, 610 the second jab, while 70, 291 from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 6, 861 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose.
