Ummulong (Meghalaya): Meghalaya minister and senior leader of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Sniawbhalang Dhar has expressed optimism that his party would win a majority in the assembly elections to be held early next year and form the government yet again.

The NPP is at present leading the coalition MDA government after the 2018 assembly elections with NPP national president, Conrad K Sangma as the Chief Minister.

Exuding confidence that NPP will get an absolute majority in the 2023 assembly election, Dhar said, “NPP will win 16 seats from Garo Hills and 20 seats from Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills.

“Our candidates are all Grade-A and we will come out with flying colour,” the NPP minister asserted.

Stating that stability and unity in the NPP is the top priority for the leaders – Conrad K Sangma, Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, he said, “we are united in the NPP, and there is no team A or B. Whereas in other parties we saw in the media that they divided day by day.”

Under the leadership of the Mukul Sangma-led government (Congress), only 1600 Km road was constructed between 2014 and 2018, but under the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, 3200 Km road was constructed, from 2018 till date,” he said addressing mammoth political gathering here at Iaw Pynsiñ market in Wahiajer, West Jaintia Hills district.

The minister, who will be contesting from the Nongbah-Wahiajer assembly constituency for the fourth time, said that the Congress government under Mukul Sangma had spent Rs 8700 crore on development, whereas the MDA government has so far spent Rs 14,000 crore.

“This government expenditure shows that the government is active and working for development,” Dhar said.

He also claimed that MDA government is working to uplift the farmers and the FOCUS scheme launched by the Chief Minister has really helped the self help groups in the state.

Dhar said that the number of self help groups has increased many folds from 4000 to 45000.
