NIT Meghalaya conducts 8th Convocation

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who was the chief guest for the event, highlighted the importance of adopting a strategy for providing quality education to all.

Shillong: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya conducted its 8th Annual Convocation via online mode on Friday, which was live-streamed on social media and attracted a large number of students and parents from all over the country.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who was the chief guest for the event, highlighted the importance of adopting a strategy for providing quality education to all.

“The need of the hour is to adopt a strategy of rapid economic growth while ensuring an equitable and quality education to all. Undoubtedly, we have the potential to establish our leadership. The need is to implement necessary changes to develop our education system as per the global standard and need,” he said.

“Prof. D N Buragohain, foundation director of IIT Guwahati was conferred an honorary doctoral degree for his remarkable contributions to structural analyses and design of Power Plants in India. NIT Meghalaya also conferred upon Neil Herbert Nongkynrih, the founding member of Shillong Chamber Choir with an honorary doctorate for his notable contributions in the field of music,” an NIT spokesperson said.

This year, NIT Meghalaya conferred degrees to 19 Ph.D, 34 M. Tech, 37 M.Sc, and 124 B. Tech. Students and the efforts and achievements of exceptional students were also recognized and rewarded.

Jaswant Arya of the Computer Science and Engineering was awarded the President’s Gold
Medal for outstanding academic performance among the B.Tech. graduating batch.

Three Institute Gold Medals were awarded to Arjun Panicker for M.Tech, Archita Goswami for M.Sc., and Aditya Tarafdar for B.Tech for best academic performance among the outgoing students.
