Aizawl: Chief Secretary, Mizoram, Lalnunmawia Chuaungo, chaired a review meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) sponsored projects undertaken by various stakeholders in the state of Mizoram, in the presence of Secretary, North Eastern Council Moses Chalai, at Aizawl, Friday.

The Chief Secretary, in his opening remarks, called upon the stakeholders to seize the rare opportunity where NEC funded projects implemented within the State could be reviewed in the presence of the NEC Secretary so that projects will be expedited and hindrances resolved. He welcomed all members to freely share problems encountered, put forward suggestions for effective implementation and draw the attention of the NEC to key policy issues.

Pu Lalnunmawia Chuaungo reiterated that NEC plays a vital role in the socio-economic development in the North-Eastern region and the State of Mizoram, in particular.

Addressing the meeting, Moses Chalai said that the strategic location of the northeastern states is an advantage to become a key player in the country’s connection with the ASEAN countries. The immense potential in international trade should be tapped and that people in the region should not only think in terms of import but direct their attention towards what the states can offer to these countries. He also said that Mizoram performs relatively well in the implementation of NEC projects and urged the stakeholders to keep up the momentum.

The State currently has 26 ongoing projects under NEC, out of which 15 projects are expected to be completed within the current financial year.
