Meghalaya records nine COVID-19 deaths and 457 new cases

Director Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said five deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district, two in Ri-Bhoi district and one death each in West Khasi Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district.

Of the 457 new COVID-19 cases detected, the senior medical official said 154 in Ri-Bhoi district, 99 in East Khasi Hills district, 69 in West Garo Hills district, 45 in West Jaintia Hills district, 22 in North Garo Hills district, 14 new cases each in South West Khasi Hills district and West Khasi Hills district, 12 in South West Garo Hills district, 10 new cases in South Garo Hills district and East Jaintia Hills district besides eight new cases in East Garo Hills district.
The East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong is the most COVID-19 affected district with 1,439 active cases and 646 deaths due to the viral infection, followed by Ri-Bhoi district with 901 active cases, West Jaintia Hills with 537 active cases, West Garo Hills district with 469 active cases, while the seven other district has less than 300 active cases each as per the latest official count.
As on date, 30, 979 health care workers have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the first dose and 20, 052 received the second dose, 96, 738 frontline-workers got the first jab and 5,33,249 got the second shot, while 52, 1290 persons from among the general public were inoculated with the first dose and 3, 8, 440 are fully vaccinated with the second dose across the state.
