Medical College in CCpur will be inaugurated within 50 days, says Manipur Chief Minister

Highlighting the ill-effects of the drug menace in the society, the Chief Minister also stated that many young and innocent children have been orphaned due to the menace.

Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced that the only Medical College in the hill districts of the State under construction at Churachandpur will be inaugurated and made functional as part of the 100 Action Points for First 100 Days of the present government. 

The Chief Minister made the statement during his felicitation programme organised by Zomi Council at YPA General Headquarters Hall, Hiangtam Lamka, Churachandpur Friday. He was accorded a warm welcome for the initiatives and works taken up by his government for the development of the State during his first term as Chief Minister.

Addressing the gathering, he continued that completion of the college main building, which will be a magnificent structure, will however take some time. He also said that Rs. 115 crore has already been sanctioned under the North East Road Construction Development Scheme for the construction of the Henglep Road.

Further highlighting a series of initiatives taken up for the district as part of the 100 Days Programme, he said without the support of the people, the government cannot do anything.

The Chief Minister said under the Jal Jeevan Mission, efforts are on to provide potable water to every household, digging of tube-well at 70 places including 50 in Churachandpur and 20 in Pherzawl has been targeted to be completed within the 100 Days programme.

He said transit accommodation for doctors, nurses and teachers, an amusement park, Solar power system for the Churachandpur District Hospital to ensure 24×7 power supply, a Model Anganwadi center will be inaugurated among others.

He said amusement parks are being constructed in seven districts out of which the parks in Ukhrul, Senapati and Churachandpur will be inaugurated within the 100 Days programme. 

Stating that one can see a high level of political maturity and intellectuality among the Zomi people, N. Biren further lauded the Zomi community for standing for unity and oneness of the State during the past turmoil in the State.

Highlighting the ill-effects of the drug menace in the society, the Chief Minister also stated that many young and innocent children have been orphaned due to the menace. Expressing grief and shock over the issue, he asserted that this, as a reason to why he started the war on drugs. He said that the steps were not taken up for his benefit and he doesn’t have any enmity with anyone and has no intention to create enmity with others also.”

Making a clarion call for all to join in the war against drugs to save our young children, the Chief Minister said, “We have to fight together against drugs, poppy plantation and drug smuggling.”

The Chief Minister also applauded the Zomi Mothers’ Association for their contribution to the society, and said that the mothers’ organization has done a lot by supporting the fight in the past.  Seeking their support the Chief Minister stressed the need to organize a mass drive.

Minister, Education and Law & Legislative Affairs Thounaojam Basanta, Minister, Transport and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Kashim Vashum, MLA for Churachandpur AC LM Khaute, MLA for Thanlon AC Vungzagin Valte, MLA for Henglep AC Letzamang Haokip, MLA for Singngat AC Chinlunthang, Ex-MLA Ginsuanhau and Chairman, Zomi Council John K. Ngaihte also attended the felicitation programme among others.  

As a part of the programme, cultural items were presented by Vaiphei Cultural Troupe, Thangkhal Cultural Troupe, Paite Cultural Troupe and Zou Cultural Troupe. Children of Only Grace Home also presented a dance during the programme.
