Churachandpur: Assam Rifles organised a grand felicitation programme on 15 June 2026 at its headquarters in Churachandpur district to honour two local bravehearts conferred with the prestigious Shaurya Chakra. Subedar P H Moses of 1 Assam Rifles and Havildar Manglemsang Vaiphei of 3 Assam Rifles, both hailing from Churachandpur, were celebrated for displaying exceptional courage and exemplary professionalism during high-risk counter-insurgency operations. The event was attended by 250 personnel including senior officials, to honour the gallantry award winners and draw inspiration from their extraordinary feats.

The event seamlessly captured the operational brilliance of both heroes. Displaying matching grit on 09 June 2025 near the Indo-Myanmar border, Havildar Vaiphei acted as a lead scout and fearlessly held his ground during a heavy firefight, single-handedly eliminating two armed cadres and injuring a third.

During an interactive session, the awardees shared these gripping battlefield experiences, highlighting the critical importance of teamwork, tactical composure and leadership under pressure. Senior military officials congratulated the duo, emphasizing that their acts of gallantry uphold the finest traditions of the force. The interactive commemoration successfully fostered deep camaraderie amongst the troops, leaving a powerful impact and reinforcing an enduring ethos of discipline, selfless service and patriotism for future generations of soldiers.
