Manipur polling date postponed to Feb 28 for 1st phase, March 5 for 2nd phase

Imphal: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the date of polling for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly to February 28 instead of February 27 for the 1st phase and to March 5 for the 2nd phase, as per a press note issued by the Secretary, ECI, Sanjeev Kumar Prasad.

The revision of poll dates comes after an official team of Election Commission of India led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Sushil Chandra accompanied by Election Commissioners Rajiv Kumar, Anup Chandra Pandey and senior officials of the Election Commission of India came to the state  on February 7-8, 2022 to review poll preparedness.

The ECI team during their two-day stay in Manipur interacted with representatives of political parties, Chief Secretary, DGP, Manipur Police, CEO, DEOs, SPs, DG Assam Rifles and other law enforcement agencies. 

As per the press note, the decision to revise the poll dates was taken following these interactions, other inputs, representations, past precedents,, ground situation and other facts and circumstances in the matter.
