Manipur Guv visits Senapati Dist, interacts with CSOs, student bodies and others

The Governor was accorded a warm welcome by the Deputy Commissioner, Mamoni Doley, the Superintendent of Police, Anupam and other officials along with representatives of CSOs and the people.

Imphal: The Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey visited the Senapati district on Saturday and interacted with representatives of various civil society organisations (CSOs), women’s bodies and students’ organisations in the district. The Governor heard their grievances and assured to extend all possible assistance in the best interest of the people and the development of the district.

On her arrival at the district headquarters in Senapati town, the Governor was accorded a warm welcome by the Deputy Commissioner, Mamoni Doley, the Superintendent of Police, Anupam and other officials along with representatives of CSOs and the people.

Governor Uikey interacted with representatives of Naga People’s Organisation, Senapati, Zeliangrong Union, Senapati Zone, Maram Union, Senapati, Senapati District Women Association, All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), Senapati District Students Association, Senapati District Olympic Association and Indian Red Cross Society, Senapati District Branch. 

These bodies raised issues about the development of the district including setting up of a medical college in Senapati district, construction of a multipurpose hall, upgradation of Don Bosco College, Maram to a full-fledged university, setting up of a rehabilitation centre for the drug-affected youths as a part of the drug surveillance programme, functioning of blood bank in the district hospital and upgradation of AstroTurf, Senapati. 

ANSAM raised their concerns over the Centre’s decision to fence Indo-Myanmar border. IRCS requested the Governor to provide an ambulance. The bodies submitted memoranda to the Governor and urged to extend all possible help in the interest of the tribal people in the district. They also requested the Governor to convey their message to the Centre that Union Ministers should pay a visit to the hill districts. 

Governor Uiley while giving them a patient hearing said the Government is committed to developing the hill districts in the State and many welfare measures have been introduced. She assured that extend all possible assistance for the welfare of the people in the district. The governor also enquired about developmental activities taken up in the district and asked the Deputy Commissioner to submit a detailed report in this regard.  

Later, the Governor witnessed the spectacular final match of the 3rd Edition of Lt. Col.(late) Robert TA Memorial Open Football Tournament being played at Astro Turf Ground in Senapati district headquarters and distributed prizes. The tournament is being hosted by 16 Assam Rifles in memory of Lt. Col. (late) Robert TA. 

In the final match, United Brothers FC (Ukhrul) beat Taphou FC (Senapati) by 4-3 goal. The governor handed over a cheque of Rupees three lakhs and a winner trophy to United Brothers FC and a cheque of rupees 1.5 lakh and a runners-up up trophy to Taphou FC respectively. Governor felicitated the wife of Lt. Col. (late) Robert TA Mrs. P. Chingpei and two daughters in the presentation ceremony of the match. MLA Losii Dikho, IGAR (East) Major General V.K. Nambiar attended the grand finale which was witnessed by around 11,000 people.
