Minister Y. Khemchand said that the government will try to include science subjects in the course curriculum that was proposed by the former principal of the college. “We need to pursue the matter seriously so that it gets implemented. I will try my best to help and find an amicable solution to the matter,” he said.

Mention may be made that Nongmeikapam Gopal Singh was the founder of N.G. College. The college was an offshoot of a solemn meeting held on May 5, 1969, which gave birth to the erstwhile “City College” in 1970 as a night college at Tombisana High School. The college was converted to a full-fledged government college on a historic Tuesday, January 1, 1980. The college is now affiliated with Manipur University and is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Sections 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956.

At present, N.G. College is a NAAC-accredited college with a CGPA of 2.43 (B-grade). A three-person peer team from UGC visited the college on March 8–9, 2022. They assessed the status and the desired standards of the college for NAAC qualification, and declared the college qualified by accrediting NAAC on the 15th of March, 2022.

The ceremony was also attended by (Retd. DGP) & Ex-Deputy Chief Minister Manipur, Y. Joykumar Singh; Former Principal NG College, L. Manglemba Singh; Founder Family Member, NG College, Nongmeikapam Kholchandra Singh and Principal, NG College Ashok Roy Choudhury, as guests of honour and president respectively, among others.
