Kamjong marks Anti-Drug Day with awareness drive

The observance reinforced the importance of educating youth about the dangers of substance abuse while encouraging prevention, recovery, and community participation.

Kamjong: The District Social Welfare Office, Kamjong, under the supervision of District Administration, Kamjong and in collaboration with IRCA observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at IRCA Shungriphai village, Kamjong district on 26th of this month. Badan Thaimei, Zonal Education Officer, Kamjong graced the observance along with Additional Superintendent of Police Kh. Herojit Singh.

Speaking on the occasion, Badan Thaimei, ZEO, Kamjong emphasized the significance of collective responsibility in combating drug abuse. Additional Superintendent of Police Kh. Herojit Singh spoke on the legal implications and dangers of drug abuse.

Sub-Deputy Collector, Kasom Khullen Block Shri Orient Thansing also addressed the gathering on NMBA-related issues and expressed gratitude to IRCA NGO for their efforts.

District Social Welfare Officer, Kamjong Angom Tamphasana Chanu highlighted the importance of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan awareness to combat substance abuse.        

The main highlights of the programme were drawing and essay competitions, followed by the distribution of prizes and certificates to winners and participants. All the participants also administered the pledge against drug abuse.

During the programme, recovered beneficiaries of IRCA shared their experiences before and after recovery through their speeches and interactions. Tokens of appreciation were also presented to them.

Pastor of Shungriphai Village Horei, Chief Functionary, IRCA Noyon Sagolsem, Project Co-ordinator, IRCA Ksh. Jayenta also attended the programme among others. The event was attended by around 200 individuals.
