Imphal: Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), inaugurated the 3rd DGAR Hockey Tournament for Men and Women at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium. The tournament, scheduled from 18 to 28 September 2026, is being conducted with the objective of promoting hockey, nurturing sporting talent and providing a platform for young and emerging players to showcase their skills and competitive spirit.
The opening ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Lieutenant General K Himalaya Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), in the presence of the Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), representatives of the media, prominent social media influencers, government officials, civil dignitaries and Dr Basudev, President, Manipur Hockey. The distinguished gathering added further impetus to the tournament and reflected the collective commitment towards the promotion of hockey in Manipur.
The tournament provides an important platform for players to compete at a high level while fostering discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship and camaraderie among the participating teams. It also seeks to encourage youth towards sports and highlight the rich sporting potential of the region.
Through the conduct of the 3rd DGAR Hockey Tournament, Assam Rifles has created an opportunity for young athletes to gain visibility and experience, reinforcing the importance of sports in building confidence, discipline and unity within the community.
