Kohima: Acting on specific information about the presence of arms and ammunition in the Chanung Top area of Imphal East District, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Manipur Police from Kangpokpi and Imphal East District on 17 July 2024.

The 72-hour operation involved the deployment of patrol dogs and explosive detection dogs.

The operation resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including thirteen long-range mortars, four Burmese iron rod improvised explosive devices, one modified grenade launcher, one G3 rifle, six .303 rifles, one .22 pistol, a grenade, 25 locally made improvised explosive devices, 115 rounds of various ammunition, three magazines for various weapons, two radio sets, and other war-like stores.

The recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police for further disposal and investigation.
