IJU condemns attack on Journalist in Manipur

Attacks on Journalists indicate a malady in society and it is the responsibility of the Government to provide security to scribes and thus defend the freedom of the press, the IJU leaders said.

Hyderabad: Indian Journalist Union (IJU) has condemned the attack on a local journalist in Manipur allegedly by Congress Party workers.
According to a report in News Daily from Imphal, a group of people allegedly belonging to the Congress party of Thoubal District on Sunday assaulted Elangbam Rameswar, a correspondent working for a local newspaper.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, IJU President K. Sreenivas Reddy and Secretary-General Balwinder Singh Jammu decried the attack and demanded immediate action against the assailants.

According to reports, the brother of the victim journalist named 13 people and the police registered an FIR against them.
The IJU leaders have demanded the immediate arrest of the assailants and also the forces behind the attack.
