Kakinada (AP): Kakinada district Collector Kritika Sukla has inaugurated the 13th Hockey India senior women National championships at the district sports authority stadium here on Wednesday.
She said it was a matter of pride for Kakinada, which hosted successfully the Hockey India Junior women National championships last year, was also hosting the prestigious senior women nationals now. She said Astro turf court, first of its kind in the state , was arranged at a cost of Rs.7 Crore CSR funds of central government. She also said that the court would be further improved by providing all amenities.
Hockey Andhra Pradesh advisor and mentor M Niranjan reddy said that the Hockey Andhra Pradesh was organizing the championships with the cooperation of the state government and in coordination with the SAP and other government departments.
Those players who exhibit their talent in these championships would be selected for the international championships.
It was for the first time in the 80 years of hockey history of Andhra Pradesh, senior level National championships were being held, he added. Andhra Pradesh special chief secretary K Praveen Kumar attended as the chief guest. Kakinada city municipal commissioner K Ramesh, district sports authority CEO DS Sunita, chief coach Srinivasarao was among those attended.
