Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said the government will not spare anyone who resorts to violence in the name of religion.

PM was addressing a condolence reference at Prime Minister’s Office for Sri Lankan national Priyantha Kumara, who was brutally lynched last week in Sialkot over blasphemy allegations.

“From now on, if anyone is found using religion, especially resorting to violence in the name of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the government will not spare them,” the PM said.

According to a Dawn report, a certificate of appreciation was also awarded to Malik Adnan — Kumara’s colleague who had tried to save his life.

Lauding Adnan’s bravery, the PM said,” Role models are important in the country because people follow them…I am sure our youth will remember the way Malik Adnan stood up against those beasts.”

Khan said Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was sent as a blessing for the entire human race, not just Muslims.

“His message was based on two principles: humanity and justice; these two traits distinguish humans from animals.”

Talking about people who are falsely accused of blasphemy and are sent to jail, PM said,” If someone accuses a person of blasphemy, the victim rots in jail and no lawyer or authority comes to his defence to see what actually transpired.Everyone is afraid of it. In fact, lawyers do not come forward and judges also refuse to listen to the cases.”
Citing the Dec 2014 attack on the Army Public School Peshawar, the PM said the incident had united the nation against terrorism. “After the Sialkot incident, the whole nation has decided that we will not let such a thing happen again.”

The business community in Sialkot has informed the PM that they had collected $0.1 million for Kumara and that his family would continue to receive his monthly salary.

PM Khan also spoke about the establishment of the Rehmatul lil Alameen Authority and said he came up with the idea to bring together Islamic scholars and devise strategies to spread the true message of the Holy Prophet in society.

Concluding his speech, the PM again paid tribute to Adnan and said he would be honored with the Tamgha-i-Shujaat on March 23.
