Governor Uikey calls for stakeholders’ cooperation to resolve Manipur crisis

Imphal: Manipur Governor Miss Anusuiya Uikey has earnestly appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate in resolving the 13-month-old crisis in the state, emphasizing that restoring peace and tranquillity is in the best interest of the people of Manipur.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 15-day Summer Children’s Theatre Workshop 2024, held at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre Relief Camp, Lamboikhognangkhong in Imphal West district, Governor Uikey highlighted the widespread impact of the crisis on all sections of society, particularly women and children. She stressed the need to support these vulnerable groups with the utmost care, noting that theatre workshops can help them relax and improve their mental state.

The workshop was organized by the National School of Drama, New Delhi, and the National School of Drama (TIE Wing), Tripura, in collaboration with Khengjongland and the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur. It specifically targeted children in relief camps at the Expo Centre and the Temporary Shelter Home, Sajiwa Jail Complex in Imphal East.

During the event, the Governor interacted with 120 displaced children and their guardians, distributing certificates for their participation in dancing and painting events. She commended the role of Khengjongland in alleviating stress among young minds and fostering their mental well-being, encouraging the theatre group to continue their efforts with the promise of support from the Raj Bhavan.

Governor Uikey underscored the importance of providing children with good education, healthcare, and opportunities to develop their talents. She reiterated that children are the future pillars of the nation and should be guided and nurtured in their areas of interest.

Expressing serious concern over the ongoing situation in the state, the Governor stated that steps have been taken to resolve the crisis, including ongoing discussions with Central leaders. She expressed hope for tangible results shortly.

The closing ceremony was attended by Professor P. Gunindro, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University of Culture, Dr. Thaninleima, Director of Khengjongland, officers from the Social Welfare Department, and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
