Agartala: Tripura police detained four persons belonging to a Muslim organisation Tahreek Fargoh-e-Islam (TFIslam) last night allegedly for suspiciously moving in the Panisagar area of North Tripura defying the restrictions of police.

While the situation at the ground was quite normal and peace has been restored with the initiative of the state government and the major political parties, some vested interest groups have been visiting the state and spreading false information and photographs across the globe, which state police have taken a serious note, said Director General of Police V S Yadav.

According to the report, police registered a suo-moto case against Qamar Ghani Usmami, founder and president, Ahsan-ul-Haque Razvi, national secretary, Asif Raza Khan, national vice president and Muddasir Dibkar, executive member of TFIslam for violating the provision of Section
120(B)/153A/153B/503/504 of IPC and 13 of ULA (P) Act.

Police said after vandalism in shops and houses of Muslim families in the Rowa area of Panisagar on October 26 last from a rally of VHP, unknown people with different identities have been visiting the locality, making media statements on distorted facts, false propaganda and spreading fabricated photographs intending to create disharmony between Hindu and Muslim communities.

After the visits of such groups in the past few days, false propaganda in social media has increased enormously. A police picket was erected in the area and restricted the movement of unknown people in the locality. The TFIslam group yesterday around 1600 hrs visited an
abandoned mosque in the area denying the request of on-duty policemen, sources said.

They were told to meet the officer in charge of Panisagar police station and they met the officer around 1700 hrs. The delegation was told not to refrain from visiting the place but they didn’t listen to the police and again around 1800 hrs they visited the mosque followed by an
interview with media where they made a false statement that the Quran Sharif was burnt in the incident of October 26.

“Such false statements and propaganda to media followed by spreading them in social media by the outsiders with ulterior motives have been terrorising the situation and disturbing communal harmony between the communities. As a preventive measure, they were detained and the next course of action would be taken after a judicial review of the charges,” a senior police officer said.

Earlier, police had arrested four Hindus in connection with the vandalism case in Rowa on October 26 last and the court sent them to jail till November 12 next. The accused were identified as Dipankar Das (52), Krishna Das (31), Surbata Das (30) and Jitendra Nath (32). Apart from that five criminal cases were registered against 71 people for posting “provocative” and “fake posts” on social media over the alleged communal violence in the state.

A separate complaint has been registered against a team of advocates in the Supreme Court who recently visited the state to find the facts on the purported violence for making false statements and instigating communal tension. They had also alleged violence was a targeted attack on Muslims and on their mosques and demanded an inquiry by a High Court judge.

On the other, National Human Rights Commission has sought a detailed action taken report from Chief Secretary Kumar Alok and Director General of Police V S Yadav on the incidents of Rowa. The commission has served a four weeks notice to submit the report based on a complaint filed by the National Spokesperson of All India Trinamool Congress Saket Gokhale.
