Imphal: On 09 August 2026, Assam Rifles commemorated World Tribal Day across Larong Khunou, Larong Khullen and Vomku in Chandel district, alongside Kwatha in Tengnoupal district, Manipur. Observed globally on 09 August, the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples serves to protect tribal rights, preserve ancestral knowledge and honour the rich cultural tapestry of native communities. The integrated celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from village elders, tribal leaders, women, youth, students and local residents across both districts.
At Kwatha in Tengnoupal district, the event recorded the active presence of 73 civilians, comprising 38 men and 35 women. To mark the occasion, participants proudly adorned traditional Anal Naga and Lamkang Naga attire, creating a colourful display of indigenous heritage, customs and distinct identity. The gathering provided a vibrant platform to celebrate, promote and preserve ancestral traditions and traditional knowledge passed down through generations.
During interactive engagements, Assam Rifles personnel highlighted the vital need to protect indigenous languages and customs while encouraging the younger generation to stay anchored to their cultural roots. Discussions centred on fostering unity, mutual respect, harmony and responsible citizenship within the region. Concluding with a vote of thanks, the celebrations reinforced mutual trust, goodwill and enduring bonds between Assam Rifles and local communities, furthering the cause of national integration.
