Thoubal: Along with the rest of the country, the District Election Office Thoubal Monday launched the collection of Aadhar Number from existing electors or citizens seeking registration in the electoral roll.
Speaking at the launching program held at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, DEO/DC Thoubal A.Subhash Singh, said that the purpose of linking the electors with the Aadhar number is to avoid duplicity in the electoral roll and to have strong and healthy electors.
Giving a PowerPoint presentation at the launching program ADM Thoubal, B. Lokeshor said by using Form 6B an Electors can link with his/her Aadhar number. For this EROs and AEROs are instructed to take up necessary steps. He also said according to the ECI guidelines EROs, AEROs or any officials cannot force the Electors to link with Aadhar numbers.
It should be done voluntarily by the electors. He said by using Form 6, a qualified citizen can enroll in the electoral roll . He further said that earlier the qualifying date for a citizen to enroll to the electoral roll was January 1 only but now ECI has given four qualifying date ie. January 1, April 1,July 1, and October 1.
The launching program was attended by EROs, AEROs, BLOs and representatives of various political parties.
