Shillong: Meghalaya-based Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) on Friday ‘strongly condemned’ the alleged ‘mishandling’ of newly elected MLA from Sibasagar, Assam at the hands of the police.

“The police should understand that they are government servants and not chamchagiri for anyone in power,” a joint statement issued by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and general secretary Evangeline Thabah said.

“Akhil Gogoi was elected by the people for the people and if he is mishandled and ignored, it means those police who acted like goons are insulting the people,” the duo alleged and sought removal of “such government servants” from service as “they don’t know the procedures and rules”.
