Shillong: Troopers of the Border Security Force (BSF) have seized 100 Kg of human hair meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh from the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, an official said on Wednesday.
A BSF official said the human hair was seized from Ryngku, a border village in East Khasi Hills district on Tuesday.
“There has been an increase in demand for human hair in Bangladesh owing to the flourishing wig business,” Inspector General of BSF, Inderjit Singh Rana said.
He said Bangladesh has also emerged as a new transit hub for human hair smuggling after Myanmar for further shipping to China.
“There is a possibility that human hair will be further transhipped from Bangladesh to other European countries as there is a high demand for it,” the BSF official said.Â
