Pherzawl: The Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0 and Drug Awareness Campaign, spearheaded by the Chief Medical Office (CMO), Pherzawl, concluded on Saturday after a series of awareness programmes and outreach activities across several villages in the district.

Sponsored by the Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS), the campaign, which began on November 4, aimed at strengthening public awareness of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), promoting safe practices, combating stigma and encouraging greater utilisation of HIV/STI-related health services.

Over the course of the campaign,, awareness activities were conducted in Patpuihmun, Ngampabung, Kangreng and Ankhasuo, reaching students, couples, community members and healthcare workers through health camps, interactive sessions and village-level outreach programmes.

The campaign culminated at Ankhasuo with a flash mob organised around the theme “Know Your HIV Status”, followed by a village-level Information, Education and Communication (IEC) and drug awareness programme at Ankhasuo Community Hall, which witnessed the participation of around 120 people. A similar programme conducted at Ngampabung on Thursday drew approximately 98 participants.

Earlier, a school outreach programme on HIV and drug awareness was organised at Kangreng Government High School, engaging around 60 students. A free health camp was also conducted at PHC Patpuihmun, where couples received counselling on the vertical transmission of HIV and syphilis. IEC materials were distributed at health centres across the district throughout the campaign period.

The conclusion of the campaign comes close on the heels of a significant achievement for Pherzawl district, which, along with one other district, was conferred “Surakshit” status for achieving the 95:95:95 targets under the Mobilization for AIDS Suraksha (MAS) initiative of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO).
