Guwahati: A Superintendent of taxes posted in Morigaon district in Assam was caught red handed by the Anti Corruption Unit while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.
On the basis of inputs received on Sunday, a team from the state vigilance and anti-corruption department laid a trap near the hospital of the complainant to catch Rajesh Kumar Gupta red handed as he collected a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant on behalf of superintendent of taxes Sonit Borthakur, a statement said on Monday.
Borthakur had demanded the money for absolving the complainant from tax liability and penalty.
A case has been registered in Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) police station vide ACB P.S case (number 06/2022) under Sections 7 (a)/12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and 120 (B) of IPC, against Borthakur and Gupta.
