Kakching:     In a major initiative to empower local youth, Assam Rifles inaugurated a dedicated Skill Development Centre for Commis Chef Training at Kakching Garrison in Kakching district, Manipur, on 05 October 2026. Established in collaboration with the NGOs, The Art of Living and Titan Leap, the centre aims to impart industry-oriented skills, professional training and assured employment opportunities in the hospitality sector. A total of 30 youth selected from Kakching, Thoubal and Chandel districts of Manipur are participating in this programme.

The participants will undergo a three-month comprehensive training programme comprising theoretical instruction, practical training and on-the-job exposure at various hotels across the Northeast and other parts of the country. The structured curriculum equips trainees with professional culinary skills, kitchen operations knowledge, workplace discipline, food preparation techniques and key competencies required for employment as Commis Chefs in five-star hotels and reputed hospitality establishments nationwide. A key feature is guaranteed employment for successful candidates, providing a sustainable career pathway.

Combining classroom learning with practical exposure enables participants to gain industry experience and confidently transition into professional employment beyond Manipur. By creating a direct bridge from skill development to assured jobs, the initiative enhances financial independence, improves earning capacity and provides economic security. Ultimately, this programme reduces reliance on limited local employment avenues, enabling youth to support their families, build self-reliance and secure a dignified future.
