Imphal: On the eve of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Assam Rifles organised a series of patriotic outreach programmes, youth engagements and humanitarian initiatives across Thoubal, Kakching, Chandel, Tengnoupal and Churachandpur districts of Manipur on 25 July 2026. Observed annually on 26 July, the occasion commemorates India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War, honouring the supreme sacrifice and valour of the armed forces who guarded the nation’s integrity under hostile conditions. The coordinated activities served as a vital bridge to foster patriotic values among youth, encourage civic participation and reinforce civil-military relations across the state.
In Thoubal, Kakching and Chandel districts, commemoration events brought together students, educators, local administration and residents. At Khongjom Standard English Higher School in Thoubal district, an audience of 100 individuals, including students, NCC Cadets, teachers and school staff, attended a video screening showcasing the heroic actions of Indian soldiers during the war, followed by a patriotic quiz competition and prize distribution. In Chandel district, events registered the participation of 137 civilians—comprising 89 students, nine teachers, 17 villagers and local representatives, namely the Village Chief and Village Secretary of Phaisangjang—alongside personnel of the force. The proceedings at Molcham in Chandel district began with the National Flag hoisting ceremony and solemn tributes, followed by a Tiranga Rally through surrounding areas, an interactive patriotic presentation, screening of a Kargil War documentary and motivational videos on joining the armed forces, ending with a community lunch. At Yangoulen Primary School, Phaisangjang, in Chandel district, the event commenced with the National Anthem and tributes to the war heroes, followed by interactive sessions between personnel, students, teachers and village leaders on national service and unity. Meanwhile, at Mombi Village in Kakching district, a friendly volleyball match between local youth and personnel was organised to promote sportsmanship and camaraderie, followed by a liaison session where youth issues, education, regional development and security were discussed.
Expanding the outreach on the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas in Tengnoupal district, an awareness programme was conducted for 80 students and six teachers. The event featured an informative presentation on the operational significance of the Kargil conflict and the values of national unity, supplemented by a patriotic drawing competition and a quiz contest designed to deepen student understanding of military history.
In Churachandpur district, Assam Rifles integrated the commemoration with humanitarian relief by organising a comprehensive medical camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and local residents at Bullian Primary School, Bullian Village, Khuga. Conducted in collaboration with Metrozone Health Services, Emmanuel Hospital Association, Churachandpur Medical College Hospital and Tunnu School of Nursing, the initiative mobilised nine doctors alongside nursing students, pharmacists, support staff and personnel, bringing the total medical and support team to 68 individuals. Free medical consultations and treatments were extended to 392 beneficiaries, comprising 163 men and 229 women, covering 87 general medicine, 79 geriatric, 65 paediatric, 64 gynaecology, 54 dental and 43 surgical cases. Furthermore, 26 pregnant and lactating women received ante-natal and post-natal care kits, with all medical supplies generously contributed by Metrozone Health Services to support local healthcare needs
