Imphal: Responding to the immediate needs of families affected by the ongoing situation in Manipur, the Assam Rifles launched an extensive humanitarian and community outreach campaign across Imphal West, Imphal East and Bishnupur districts. Focusing on comprehensive healthcare, essential relief distribution and the promotion of communal harmony, these coordinated initiatives targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs), vulnerable children and local community stakeholders to alleviate daily hardships and reinforce regional stability.
The cornerstone of the day’s efforts was a Mega Medical and Humanitarian Assistance Camp established at the Lamboi Khongnangkhong Relief Camp in Imphal West District. Senior personnel visited the venue to interact closely with displaced families, assessing their welfare requirements and offering reassurance of continued support. To mitigate daily challenges and improve living conditions, essential household utensils and tiffin services were distributed to families residing in the relief camps of Lamboi Khongnangkhong and Sagoltongba in Imphal West District, as well as Sownbung in Imphal East District. Additionally, stationery items were distributed to local youth to encourage academic continuity despite their displacement.
Alongside the relief distribution, a comprehensive medical camp was conducted by a combined team of 32 civil and military medical professionals, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists from both the Manipur Health Department and the Assam Rifles. The medical team provided specialist consultations in general medicine, gynaecology and dental care to ensure quality healthcare access for vulnerable sections of the population. A total of 538 beneficiaries, including 273 men, 176 women and 89 children, underwent thorough medical examinations and received treatment. In addition, 41 beneficiaries received specialised dental consultations and treatment. Free medicines were distributed based on specialist prescriptions, while crucial awareness guidelines on monsoon hygiene, sanitation and disease prevention were imparted to improve overall community well-being.
Extending this spirit of care to vulnerable children, the Assam Rifles furthered its civic action initiatives by visiting the Ema Foundation Orphanage in Imphal West District. Building upon comfort items provided earlier in April, the ladies of the Assam Rifles personally interacted with the 20 orphans, distributing essential educational supplies including school bags, water bottles, tiffin boxes and stationery. This compassionate gesture aimed to ease the burden on caretakers, nurture the educational aspirations of the children and provide them with a warm sense of belonging.
Rounding off the day’s initiatives, a community interaction was held at Nambol in Bishnupur District to strengthen civil-military cooperation and promote public safety. The interaction drew active participation from 16 Meira Paibis from Maibam Chingbam, alongside representatives from the Maibam Chingbam Welfare Club and the local Youth Club. Discussions centered on the prevailing security situation, the preservation of peace, communal harmony and health awareness given the onset of the monsoon. Local representatives expressed deep gratitude for the regular humanitarian initiatives and area domination patrols, which have successfully allowed residents to pursue agriculture and daily livelihood activities in a safe environment.
