Assam: FIR filed against Kangana for insulting freedom fighters

In the FIR, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) stated that the freedom of 1947 was earned due to the sacrifice of Mahatma Gandhi along with thousands of martyrs.

Guwahati: The Assam unit of the Congress has lodged an FIR against Padma Shri awardee actor Kangana Ranaut for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters, who had fought for India’s Independence.

In the FIR, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) stated that the freedom of 1947 was earned due to the sacrifice of Mahatma Gandhi along with thousands of martyrs.

The party said the remark by Ranaut was an insult towards the great souls.

“The statement has hurt the people of this country as well as the families of the freedom fighters of Assam. Her statement, which was a deliberate one, falls under the category of sedition,” the FIR stated.
The Assam PCC has requested the police to “take necessary action as per law to book the actor immediately”.

Kangana, while speaking at an event last week, said that the freedom in 1947 was “bheek” (alms) and India got real independence in 2014 .
